Objective £º This study is the first quasi-experimental design to evaluate the initial efficacy of inpatient ¡®Mindfulness-Based Recovery from Addiction (MBRA)¡¯ program for patients with alcohol dependence as compared to the treatment as usual (TAU).
Methods £º To examine the psychometric changes of MBRA, 25patients admitted in alcohol dependence treatment facilities participated in the study. 9 alcoholic patients from an experimental group, and 10 patients from a comparative group were analyzed with eight session programs for eight weeks. Assessments were administered at 3 time points: pre-intervention, one month-intervention, and post-intervention. We used the following scales : 1)Stress Response Inventory, 2) Korean Urge Questionnaire, 3) Psychological Well-Being Scale, 4) Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ).
Results £º MBRA participants demonstrated a greater increase in Stress Response Inventory and FFMQ as compared to the TAU.
Conclusion £º Mindfulness training appears to target the key mechanisms in alcohol dependence. MBRA may hold a promise to recovery and prevent relapse in alcohol dependence.
